What’s the difference between Millennials and the generations that came before them?
Many believe the key differentiator lies in how comfortable an individual is with technology. For Millennials—also known as the generation of digital natives—technology is something we were born with, something that always was. However, for Gen-Xers, Baby Boomers and the like, technology is seen as a slew of devices that can be difficult to understand, and may not necessarily make life easier.
But isn’t that the point of technology? To make everyday functions and everyday life that much easier for the lot of us?
If that is the case, then the chief responsibility of the designers, developers, strategists, IT specialists, content managers, and marketers—those responsible for the products we interact with every day—is to make sure each new piece of technology is more usable, more easily accessible, for everyone than the last.
That’s the theory behind World Usability Day, a day of nearly 90 events, taking place across 30 countries, aimed at ensuring that the products and services we use every day are easier to access and simpler to use.
On Thursday, Nov. 12, PhillyCHI will be hosting one of the many events taking place across the globe, and this year’s theme is “innovation”. In celebration of the 10th annual World Usability Day, PhillyCHI has invited a number of industry experts to present a series of lightning talks at the new home of Bresslergroup. This year’s speakers include:
- Andrew Golaszewski, Senior User Researcher, Bresslergroup – Golaszewski will lead a talk on the intersection of Usability and Innovation and how the two interact with one another.
- Erin Abler, Lead Content Designer, OIT – Abler will discuss the City of Philadelphia’s recent efforts to redesign phila.gov and what has gone into the project that aims at increasing usability.
- Mike Gadsby, Partner, Chief Experience Officer, O3 World – Gadsby will lead a talk discussing his organization’s recent efforts to measure and increase innovation in the labs programs.
As the nation’s leading staffing agency for digital creative and technology talent, Onward Search Philly will be co-sponsoring the event and providing refreshments throughout the evening. If you’re interested in the world of usability, and what your career might look like in this space, stop by the event on Thursday evening between 6 – 8 p.m.
