UX Careers Guide Aides Job Seekers and Employers in Growing User Experience Industry

New infographic guide to UX careers defines the roles, skills and job market potential in user experience to help professionals and hiring managers successfully navigate the evolving field.

NEW YORK – Onward Search, the leading provider of UX, interactive, Internet marketing and mobile development talent in the nation, introduced a new infographic career guide today designed for those who want to work in the burgeoning user experience industry or hire UX talent for their company. The “Guide to UX Careers” is a new addition to the Onward Search Career Center, and will be featured during Onward Search’s sponsorship of Adaptive Path’s premier design and user experience event, UX Week 2011.

The demand for top user experience, information architecture, interactive design and related talent has increased significantly in recent years and expanded into new industries. Onward Search saw a 171% rise in the number of user experience job requests it received between July of 2010 and July of 2011, making UX the fastest growing job category as reported by Recruitics™ technology.

Further evidence of the growth of the UX industry is seen in events like Adaptive Path’s UX Week, which has brought together designers and user experience professionals from all over the world for nine years and is expected to attract over 500 attendees, as well as representatives from top U.S. companies. Onward Search created the Guide to UX Careers based on an obvious need for industry data and definitions surrounding this quickly expanding field of design.

The infographic provides information about job descriptions, common requisite skill sets, national salary averages, project types and the top job markets for six of the most prominent professional verticals in the user experience profession. This gives college graduates and novice designers from all backgrounds a solid introduction to a profession that has yet to be formally defined by the BLS.

“Job responsibilities and job titles often overlap in the user experience industry because of the fluid and complementary nature of the work and the flexibility of those who practice it,” said Ken Clark, Chief Operating Officer, Onward Search. “Our UX Career Guide gives structure to individual UX roles which helps professionals, and hiring companies, gain a better understanding what user experience professionals do, what competencies they need to have and what they contribute to an organization.”

Onward Search will share the Guide to UX Careers with all attendees during Adaptive Path’s UX Week, 2011, which takes place in at the Mission Bay Conference Center in San Francisco from August 23rd to August 26th. As sponsors of the event, members of the Onward Search team will host an exhibitor booth and look forward to meeting user experience talent and hiring companies from all over the country, as well as discussing the new UX Career Guide.
